Food Photography Requires Skill, The Right Lighting and a Good Food Stylist

There are many factors that go into food photography other then the normal things like lighting, image quality, backgrounds, etc. The best way to accomplish good food photography is to hire a skilled food stylist who knows how to prepare food for the camera.

When they say they use glue as milk, the grill lines on a steak, sesame seeds on a hamburger bun, scoops of ice cream that don't melt, egg yolks that are a beautiful golden yellow, and  the right ice cube, it's all true... So much is created just for the camera when it comes to food photography.  Food Photography takes time to shop for and time for prep in advance and the day of the shoot.

Food for the camera is different than the food we eat...

Looking at food with the eye and looking at food through a camera lens are two different things. Preparing food for the lens is an absolute art in itself and will make all the difference for a professional food shoot.

Plating, propping, and the right ingredients and colors, make all the difference to good  images as opposed to great Images.  Throwing everything on the plate and taking a picture is not good food Photography. It's the photographers job to bring out the surfaces and textures of the food through lighting and surfaces. The photographer has a great respect for what goes into a Food Shoot, both pre and post production.

Refrigeration and a good food prep kitchen are a must for a specialized shoot like food. We provide refrigeration and a full kitchen to prepare your dishes. We can set up a studio on-location at your kitchen if need be. Food needs to look it's best for advertising and we accomplish that by having all the elements in place before photography begins. A good game plan is necessary, between the client, food stylist and the Photographer. Having a blueprint in advance means better Images on the day of the shoot. It's worth the investment.

What "They Say," is true...

When "they say," they use glue as milk, it's true. The grill lines on a steak, the sesame seeds on a hamburger bun, the smooth surface in a pot of gumbo, the scoops of ice cream that don't melt, a beverage the right color, the right ice cube, the right condensation around the glass, for beer - the right amount of foam in a frosty mug.

You get the idea... All of this is created properly by a skilled food stylist specifically for the camera which it takes time and preparation.
